No Sail Order Continues from the US
Cruise Lines start cruising from unique ports to work around US no sail order.

With little hope of cruising resuming from the United States in the near future, major cruise lines are becoming creative to resume cruising sooner rather than later.

This week Norwegian Cruise Line announced that the cruise line will begin operation again in late July with sailings from Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Greece. The Cruises will sail aboard the Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Joy.

In conjunction with its return to service announcement, the Norwegian Cruise Line announced the cancellation of all July and August itineraries aboard Norwegian Breakaway, Dawn, Escape, Getaway, Sky, Spirit, Star and Sun. In addition, voyages aboard Norwegian Epic through Sept. 1, 2021; and Norwegian Pearl through Nov. 7, 2021 have also been canceled.

The Nowegian Cruise Line announcement follows an announcement from Royal Caribbean stating that Royal Caribbean will begin sailing from the UK on the Anthem of the Seas, Israel on the Odyssey of the Seas, from Bermuda on the Vision of the Seas and from Nassau on the Adventure of the Seas starting in late June.

The UK appears to have opened up cruising to only their citizens. The cruises will be to nowhere or sailing to othe UL ports. Cruise lines expected to sail from the UK in the June/July timeframe include: Fred Olsen Cruises, Royal Caribbean, P&O Cruises, Princess, Saga Cruises, Viking, Cunard and Disney.

Disney Magic is scheduled to sail mostly two- and three-night voyages, as well as limited four-night sailings round-trip from London Tilbury, Newcastle, Liverpool and Southampton.

Viking Cruises has announced 2 new departure ports Bermuda and Iceland. For the new Bermuda Escape itinerary, the Viking Orion will homeport in Hamilton for eight-day roundtrip itineraries; with the new Iceland’s Natural Beauty itinerary, the Viking Sky will homeport in Reykjavik for eight-day roundtrip itineraries.

These announcement are on top of Crystal Cruises announcement that they would sail from both Nassau and Bimini for their upscle Bahamas cruises on board the Crystal Serenity.

Although other brands under the Carnival Corporation Brand are sailing from the UK - No plans to resume service for Carnival Cruises has been announced. On April 6, Carnival Cruise Line is notifying guests of additional cruise cancellations and the extension of its pause in all operations from U.S. ports through June 30, 2021.

It is expected that an announcement from Carnival Cruises should be announced shortly with cruises possibly sailing from Cozumel, Mexico. We shall see that happens in the upcoming weeks.

These announcments are happening on the heels of an announcement from the Center For Disease Control (CDC) which did not mention any specific dates around when cruises will resumefrom the United States ports. Many industry related leaders were expressing concern over the further delay and lack of info. Fran Del Rio from Norwegian Cruise Line - basically classing the latest announcement as "Unfair". Airlines, hotels and resorts have resumed normal operations - yet the cruise lines have not been allowed to restart. Del Rio pointed out 74 precautions which the cruise line is implementing to assure safe vacations for all.

Politicians from Florida have been lobbying for the resumption of service from their ports citing the significant economic impact on the local economy the suspension is causing. Florida politicians and port authorities are urging the CDC to allow cruising to resume from US ports.
