Royal Caribbean's Odyssey of the Seas departed Papenburg, Germany on Saturday February 26, 2021, sailing backwards down the Ems River to Eemshaven the Netherlands. From there, the ship will conduct a series of technical and nautical sea trials in the North Sea. The delivery of the ship is planned for the next few weeks and will take place in close cooperation with the cruise line.
"The Odyssey of the Seas is a beautiful ship with some new improvements. Now we can concentrate on sea trials," says Thorsten Kroes, project manager at MEYER WERFT.
The Odyssey of the Seas will be sailing backwards again in the direction of the North Sea with the assistance of two tugs. This type of transfer has proven to be a good choice due to its better maneuverability.
The transfer of the ship was carried out by the team of the Pilot Brotherhood Emden. The number of people on board is significantly reduced, taking into account the Corona prevention. The transfer team trains the maneuverer on the computer-controlled simulator in Wageningen (Netherlands) to be even better prepared. The passage of the Odyssey of the Seas over the Ems will be carried out with the support of the Ems barrier. .
The 169,000 gross tonnage cruise ship is the fifth ship Quantum Class Vessel delivered by MEYER WERFT for Royal Caribbean International.
