The Mega Yacht Serene has been making a big splash in New York for the past week. The ship is the first mega yacht to be built by Fincantieri Yachts, Muggiano (La Spezia), Italy.
Fincantieri which is know for it cruise ship building, has built some great, large scale ships like Cunard's new Queen Elizabeth and the majority of the Carnival Cruise Lines recent newbuilds.
The mega yacht Serene was delivered in August, 2011 and is one of the 10 largest yachts in the world, measuring 439 feet long, 61 feet wide and a draft of 18 feet. She is one of the finest vessels in terms of sophistication and technology.
Designed in accordance with the maximum class of international safety regulations for passenger transport, the MY “Serene” has seven decks, a hangar and two helicopter landing pads. The vessel also features a large sea-water swimming pool which can accommodate service craft and a submarine with a diving depth of up to 100 meters.
With seven decks and nearly 50,000 square feet of interior space including nearly 30,000 square feet of luxuriously-appointed living space, the yacht is larger than most land based properties. The interior space was designed by Pascale Reymond from Reymond Langton Design, one of the most famous designers in the industry.
Fincantieri Yachts team developed the project from the ground-breaking concept design of Espen Oeino, who created some of the world’s most famous yachts.
For most of the last week, the Serene has been tied up at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, although today she did sail down the Hudson and spend most of the morning around lower Manhattan, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
Ownership of the mega-yacht has not been revealed.
