1-19-08 Fred Olsen has announced that Balmoral’s conversion at Blohm+Voss shipyard is delayed. The former Norwegian Crown is undergoing a major refit which includes lengthening the ship. and a major conversion and reconstruction of her interiors. The work was scheduled to be completed in about 10 weeks. The pre-fabricated 30.2mtr section was constructed at Schichau Seebeckwerft in Bremerhaven earlier last year.

Fred Olsen had hoped the ship would leave the yard yesterday for sea trials and be handed over in Dover early next week. She will now be late in arriving in the UK where she will first undergo inspection by the US Public Health authorities to make sure she is compliant for trading in US waters.

The ship will not be in Dover until next Thursday. The line has cancelled all promotional events on Balmoral which were planned for the end of next week. The priority is to get the ship ready in time for her maiden cruise to the Canaries and West Africa which is due to leave on January 30.
