Farwell Norwegian Crown

Copyright: Norwegian Crown - Norwegian Cruise Line

November 7th, 2007 -   The Norwegian Crown arrived from her last cruise on Sunday, November 4th. Almost immediately, all of the personal belongings of the crew and NCL were removed from the Norwegian Crown in preparation for her official turned over to her owners Fred Olsen, on Wednesday.

At 4 PM on November 7th, the Norwegian Crown slipped out of New York for the final time under her current name. The ship is slowly proceeding to Blohm and Voss Shipyard for a major overhaul and lengthening. For the next 10 days, work will begin on stripping her furnishing and cutting through cabins and flooring. This work is being done in preparation of cutting the entire ship in half and inserting a new, prefabricated, midsection. The added space will accommodate added public rooms, balcony cabins, and an additional pool.  Fred Olsen will be reconfiguring many of the public rooms, flow and cabins as well.

The Norwegian Crown is expected to emerge from the German shipyard in January, as the Balmoral.  She will sail a transatlantic voyage to Miami. Later in the year she will visit New York twice on special cruises.

We wish the Crown much success  in her new role.
