Artists Rending of New Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal
November 6, 2014 - Work continues on Royal Caribbean's new cruise terminal at Cape Liberty, Bayonne, New Jersey.
During a press preview of the new Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal, located in Bayonne, New Jersey, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Royal Caribbean revealed that Cape Liberty will become a 2 ship operation.
I was under the impression that after the new terminal was constructed, the older terminal, which is a coverted military terminal would be demolished. It now appears that both terminals will remain operational.
Royal Caribbean and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey had stated that they would try and lure other cruise lines to use/share the facility. There is also speculation that either Celebrity Cruises or Royal Caribbean would add a second ship to be based out of the Port of New York.
It was speculated that the new cruise terminal is capable of handing an Oasis Class ship and that one could potentially seasonaly sail from the port. (I am stil trying to determine if an Oasis Class ship could fit underneath the Veranzaro-Narrows Bridge.).
There was speculation years back, that Royal Caribbean had intended to develop a cruise terminal on the Atlantic Ocean side of Staten Island so the Veranzaro-Narrows bridge height would not be an issue. This never materialized.
