October 15, 2014 - Work continues on Royal Caribbean's new cruise terminal at Cape Liberty, Bayonne, New Jersey.
The new state of the art facility is expected to be complete in November for the arrival of Royal Caribbean's new, 167,000 ton, 4,180 passenger Quantum of the Seas. At this point, it appears that work is running behind, since construction workers have been working late nights and weekends to push the project forward.
The bulk of the exterior structure is in place but the surrounding grounds and building interior still has a way to go. Features of the new facility include a 36,000 square-foot check in area; a 60,000 square-foot baggage handling facility; a parking deck and lot; and dock/berth improvements.
The $70 Million dollar, state of the art facility is being funded main by the Royal Caribbean, but is a joint agreement with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey which own the land.
As part of the agreement, the Port Authority has leased additional land (adjacent to the cruise facility) to Royal Caribbean for parking and bus loading/unloading. The Port Authority has extended Royal Caribbean's lease of the property for 5 additional years to 2043 as part of the deal.
The new terminal will serve as the home for Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas as well as Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Summit.
